friday night we colored eggs. while we waited for the eggs, david told mac and bode the story of easter. "and so Jesus died but on easter, he rose from the dead. He's alive!" excited, mac replied, "well, you know what?! when i was little, men on horses chased me with swords. they chased me and they fight me and they kill't me!" his head lowered and in a low voice he repeated, "they kill't me."
me - "well, what happened? did you come back to life?"
mac - "no. i died." oh.
this morning in kids' club, mac sat next to mr. darin in the big circle time. making his day, mr. darin was thrilled to share this one with me:
the teacher says, "today is easter and that means Jesus is alive!"
mac calls out - "what about Elvis? Elvis is alive."
it's only 10:30 am. can't wait to see what other "prophecy" awaits us...
happy easter. Jesus is alive! and maybe elvis...

FRICKIN HILARIOUS!!!!!! I love it. What about Elvis??? Awesome.
It's confusing to be a kid. You've got a big fat guy coming into your house to leave you presents, you've got a rabbit leaving you candy, a fairy - that's right, a fairy - leaving you money when your teeth come out, there are little green men called leprecauns with gold, a guy with sideburns and swively hips singin in a pink cadillac and never dying. Jesus coming back from the dead doesn't seem like much of a stretch compared to the rest of this stuff.
yeah, you know i can remember saying stuff like this as a kid and always hearing "don't be a smart aleck!" that confused me even more AND created self-doubt. krissy, your comment reminds me of that and i want to be aware of when mac is trying to get laughs and when he's just trying to understand or participate in the conversation. i know he was 100% serious when he made this comment (a bit sophisticated of a "joke" for a 5 year old), but i have no idea where it came from.
